Are parent companies like actual parents in that they aren't parents until they produce offspring, or are they made to be parent companies?

If I go to (1)a supermarket (2)a health food store (3)an open air market and pay the cashier for (1)Dr McDougall's Vegan Miso Ramen Noodle Soup (2) Organic cocoa powder from some family owned company (3)Krakus ham , where does the money go? Can someone please tell me in the form of a list, possibly with citations?

What exactly ARE the..uh, factory farm standards? Rules? Are they literally bound by law with any regulations? Who checks on them to make sure they follow the rules and how often? I guess I'm asking with concern for all countries, but I'd be happy enough if someone could only tell me about one country's..legal meat ways. I'd like citations along with answers, please.
