Sure you can. Ask them.PPP wrote: "For a great many people, they would like to be part of a TV show, whether they knew it or not." -this is sort of contradicting, if they never knew about it you can't say it's what they wanted or that it fits their wants.
"So, I have this friend Bob, and he's the star of a TV show without realizing it. Do you think that's wrong? If it were you, would you mind? Or should I tell him, and cancel the show?"
If they figure that's probably fine, then alright. Bob isn't Bob, it's them. People don't have to know the actual context of something to think about it and come to some general conclusions.
That doesn't follow at all.PPP wrote:I think this reasoning in the end would only lead to: the most powerful have the right to control the less powerful as long as they do it at a high enough level.
The issue is simply consequence, and whether doing something violates another's wants.
If some extra dimensional beings are making a zoo out of all of us, and it's not hurting us, and we're none the wiser, why do you think it even matters?
Remember the guy in the first movie who wanted to go back in the Matrix?PPP wrote:I respectfully disagree. To make another movie analogy: the Matrix would be fine in your opinion? I say no.
For people like that, it's fine. He probably represents more people than you think he does.
Think about it- How many religious people do you know who admit that they don't care if their beliefs are true or not, and just that it makes them happy?
Some other people, even if they're living in a shithole, they'd rather it be a real shithole, to the extent it can be. They'd rather know the depressing truths of reality rather than comforting lies. These people seem to be in the minority.
And that's for humans, with all of their existential sophistication.
If somebody would seriously object, then it is to some extent wrong, because you're violating their wants (even unknowingly).
But fish really don't think about or care about this kind of thing.
