Debates on Discord?

Post by Kaz1983 »

Recently I subscribed to Ask Yourself on YouTube.

Then decided to join his Discord.. but anyways..

I subscribe to him because a friend recommended but what I wanted to ask was that I've seen lots of different debates on discord uploaded on YouTube and was curious if there was any way to get into debates on Discord/meet different peoples? Or is there somewhere else where there are some interesting debates about veganism?

Like I said I'm new to it, so not too sure.

In my experience, trying to debate veganism on-line is futile, you won't convince anybody even after years of trying. Anyone who responds to you is likely very delusional, and has apparently spent years studying nonsensical apologetics. People are simply dishonest with themselves, there is little you can do about it. I've made a blog-post showing what you are going to get yourself into if you debate veganism/vegetarianism on-line, you can see it here.

How do you know that? Many people simply like to argue even though you may already have installed a seed of doubt (about eating meat/dairy) in their minds. Either way, if you only convince one in a thousand, it's still worth it.
How to become vegan in 4.5 hours:
1.Watch Forks over Knives (Health)
2.Watch Cowspiracy (Environment)
3. Watch Earthlings (Ethics)
Congratulations, unless you are a complete idiot you are now a vegan.

Well, the backfire effect plays a role there, let's keep that in mind. Yes, I think almost everybody has a seed of doubt in them that a God exists, or that the government putting murderers into prisons, from which they return which even more psychological problems that made them murder in the first place, somehow makes us safer, or that it's moral to kill undoubtedly sentient animals for food. However, attempting to argue with them may make them feel even more confident that what they have been told their whole lives is right. They may end up thinking something like: "Ah, vegans are simply uninformed people. Had they read from Dennett where he (supposedly) argues animals don't feel pain, they wouldn't believe in veganism. Had they read those studies (supposedly) showing vegetarianism causes genetic mutations making future generations more prone to heart disease, they wouldn't believe what they believe. Had they read those studies that supposedly show veganism is a waste of land use, they wouldn't believe what they believe."
And I think I have better things to do with my free time than trying to convince some random person on-line to go vegan or vegetarian. Convincing some influential linguist that my linguistic theories are true would mean a lot more to me, and I think I have better chance at succeeding at that.

That might be one of the most selfish comments I have ever read.

Doing something else in your free time but doing counter-productive vegangelicalism is now selfish? Don't get me wrong, but that sounds quite a bit like cult mentality.

What discord debates did you see on YouTube, specifically?

I'd recommend Tom Rabbit's server if you're looking to engage in debates, that server seems to be popping most of the time.

If you're looking to debate veganism specifically, then your best shot with opponents whom are actively seeking debate opportunities might be Shadow Starshine and SD (Slaughter House discord server owner). Their servers are packed with people who are willing to debate you.
