If you smoke, just 25 mcg a day may be better.
This piqued my interest. I am functionally vegan (reduceatarian technically, I guess) and I smoke. After I read this, I started to Google more information about this and gathered that b9 and b12 supplementation, in general, is being correlated with a huge spike in risk for lung cancer. If the subject smoked, as well, then the risk went up to 25% or something extreme like that.

So two questions:

One, is this what you are referring to?

And two, what information are you using to settle on the figure 25mcg?

I just need to start supplementing b12 and want to do it as intelligently as possible, even though I do something so unintelligent as smoking.

How to become vegan in 4.5 hours:
1.Watch Forks over Knives (Health)

Congratulations, unless you are a complete idiot you are now a vegan.

Check out this: wiki/index.php/Nutrients_of_Concern#B-12_.26_cancer
And this: wiki/index.php/Nutrients_of_Concern#For_Smokers

25 mcg is around the low end for daily dose to reliably prevent deficiency, and is below the dosage known to be correlated with lung cancer in smokers.

You should really work on cutting back on smoking, though.
