Hi everyone, I found this forum while searching for any updated info about the ethics of eating honey. My wife and I had just been to a meadery and I've questioned over the years whether honey is truly problematic. So technically I'm sometimes a beegan or even more specifically freegan since every blue moon I eat discarded leftover sweets from the office that likely have dairy and/or eggs in them. Anyways, for all intents and purposes, I've been vegan for around 10 years, pretty much went cold tofurky after watching the documentary Earthlings.
I guess the only other relevant info about myself is that I took some animal related graduate level courses taught by Nathan Nobis, Jonathan Balcombe, and Michael Greger. All friendly folks who shaped my thinking. Oh, and I met my wife at a Farm Sanctuary fundraiser dinner put on by Bruce Friedrich. So obviously I'm a big fan of his work, both past and present. I'm familiar with pretty much all the philosophical arguments regarding veganism, but in the past few years I've become specifically interested in the writings of James McWilliams, Bob Fischer, and especially Andy Lamey. I would like to ask the group their thoughts on some of the topics they raise in their most recent books, but I'll do that in a separate post.
Thanks for listening, and shout out to the moderators for setting up this forum. I greatly admire any individuals who spend time advocating for animals.
P.S. My username SupaFly is the name I have used since childhood when playing videogames. Sad, I know. And thevegansdoodles is my dog's instagram account. Nuff said.
