Hello everybody New to plant based diets

Post by Taz »

My name is justin im 24 years old, and the way i feel daily is becoming debilitating, ive talked to doctors, done numerous visits back and forth started different supplements the list goes on and on. But the most obvious answer was in front of me all along.

My diet id so poor, and full of “fake”, processed lies that i keep feeding my body, and I eat meat yes But i have cut down to only chicken, heres the kicker. I dont cook (YET) I dont eat like i should (YET) , and im a super beginner shopper/nutritionalist
So im just gonna go all in and start cooking my own plant based
Meals and hopefully my health will prosper greatly !

If anyone has any grocery lists/ what i can buy or any reliable resources, i could go off of to start this journey it would be well appreciated 8-) Hoping to hear from someone soon m. -Justin aka taz.

Welcome Justin,

It seems you are on the right track. it took me 30+ years to figure out how I can eat, feel great, enjoy my food, while not being reminded of food cravings that interrupt my life satisfaction.

I only wish I had had the Internet as a resource when I first attempted to eat healthfully. It is hard to tell you exactly what you should eat. I could tell you what and how I eat but most people consider that extreme and impossible.

I could only point you toward a few of my favorite resources:

Nutritionfacts.org
https://cronometer.com/
philosophicalvegan.com (which you have already found)

The next thing you should ask yourself is if you believe you have the discipline to go straight to a plant-based whole food diet or if it would be easier for you to do it by steps, such as.
1. A reductionist carnist, pollotarian, or pescetarian diet,
2. A vegetarian diet
3. A vegan processed food diet.
4. A plant-based whole food diet.
How to become vegan in 4.5 hours:
1.Watch Forks over Knives (Health)
2.Watch Cowspiracy (Environment)
3. Watch Earthlings (Ethics)
Congratulations, unless you are a complete idiot you are now a vegan.

Hi Taz, welcome! It depends a lot on where you live because what's good/cheap/easy varies a lot regionally.

The most basic advice is to find at least 3-4 staple go-to meals that you like. For example, hummus vegetable wrap, bean burrito, sandwich, a soup or curry, stir fry. They need to be satisfying and rich in protein (but of course healthy). That'll help avoid the "what to eat" crisis that causes a lot of failures.

Smoothies are a big help too. They don't replace the experience of food, but they do a lot to fill in gaps and work in a time crunch.
