What do you mean by unnecessary dying?
Because the UK is trying to get people sick to develop herd immunity. I think it's safe to add an additional hundred thousand deaths for people who need the healthcare for things not Corona related, since the hospitals will be crammed.
Jebus wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2020 9:51 amIs there any reason to believe the UK will be worse off than the US?
I'm not sure. I think the UK might be better off, since they have a universal healthcare system, smaller cities, and a lower population. That's just a guess though.

You do realize the UK is more densely populated than the U.S.
Apart from that, I think they are better equipped than the US to deal with something like this. It's scary that people like Trump, Pence, and Carson are the people in charge of a pandemic. The Surgeon General guy doesn't seem to be a genius either.

How did you arrive at that estimation? That would mean nearly 4 million Americans over 60 will die. The worst case estimates I've heard is 1 million Americans total (and that includes all age groups).
Estimates for the U.S. already approach 2 million. Once the hospitals are full more people who would not have otherwise died will die, including those unrelated to the virus.
