Furthermore, Hume noted the existence of evil and imperfection in the world, which suggests that if it was designed, there was a limited designer. Hume asked how an all-powerful, all-loving God could allow evil to happen. If they weren’t able to stop it, then they aren’t all powerful. If they didn’t want to stop it, then they aren’t all-loving. Hume attributed this paradox to Epicurus (although this may be a misattribution as Epicurus was not an atheist, and none of his extant writings have this paradox; if he did come up with this paradox, it wasn’t to prove that God didn’t exist).
What are your thoughts on the argument that God has to allow evil to exist, as to do otherwise would violate people’s free will? Many theists, including Paley, use the free will defence to respond to the problem of evil.

Assuming that free will exists (which is debatable, to say the least), then I don’t see why a God would allow humans to have free will if it led to evil. I don’t believe that this is the “best of all possible worlds” as I’d much rather live in a world without free will and without evil. Besides which, I’m not convinced that an omnipotent being wouldn’t be able to allow for a world without evil but with free will.

Why are we ignoring the fact that William Poley was a serial sex offender?
Even if that were true, why would it matter? We should be judging arguments on their merit, not on the moral character of the person who made them. Otherwise, it's an ad hominem fallacy.

Do you have any idea how offensive that is to survivors of sexual assault? People like you are some of the reasons why so many women who have been raped or sexually harassed are unwilling to come forward. Shame on you.

Nice job taking my words out of context there. No, I'm not saying that rape or sexual assault doesn't matter. I'm saying that it's irrelevant to whether Paley's watchmaker analogy is correct.

Stop with your excuses. I saw what you said and it is inexcusable. You are a rape apologist.

And what about the men who have been raped or sexually harassed? See, this is just proof that this whole "Me Too" crap is just a load of feminazi bullshit to try to make men look like monsters. Well I've had enough of this. I am sick and tired of having this PC dogma shoved down my throat by the same SJWs who ruined Star Wars and video games. This is just like in 1984!
