Introducing Myself
Hi, I am Your Construct. I work in academia and I am in the STEM fields. Apparently introducing myself is a mandatory thing I have to do. I've been vegan for 4 years now. None of my friends or family are vegan, I just try to lead by example. I would love to see everyone on this planet go vegan.

Welcome!
That's a sentiment most of us here on the forum share, and we're happy to work towards making others vegan with whatever we can.
Hope you like it here.

Hi Red,
As a graduate student, my focus was physical chemistry. I studied electric fields and how they can influence microfluidic systems. Are you in STEM as well?

I'm currently studying Civil Engineering and Physics, though I'm going to do some research in engineering. I'm planning on going to grad school after I complete my undergrad, and will probably do Nuclear Engineering.Your_Construct wrote: βThu Oct 01, 2020 10:40 pm Hi Red,

It's hard stuff, but I do enjoy learning it (though still have a chronic procrastination problem!). My first semester was pretty rough, but I've picked myself back up, despite the COVID crap.
How did you find your time in grad school?

Re: Introducing Myself
Graduate school was one of the best experiences I have ever had in my life. My professor was exactly the type of professor that a person with my type of personality needed. If you are considering graduate school, you want to join a research group where the professor will actually respect you and treat you like a human being.

I hope that isn't too hard to come by!Your_Construct wrote: βSat Oct 03, 2020 2:01 pm Graduate school was one of the best experiences I have ever had in my life. Do you have any advice for someone who wants to do research? This week I'm gonna ask some of my engineering professors about it, ask them about their experiences researching, and stuff like that. Is it normal to be daunted by the task?

Welcome Your Construct,
I had been vegan over five years before I first met another vegan. I assume veganism is not very popular in Wisconsin.
Polls are looking good at the moment for Trump losing Wisconsin. Is that the impression you have on the streets, or are Trump supporters a lot more loud and visible?

How to become vegan in 4.5 hours:
1.Watch Forks over Knives (Health)
2.Watch Cowspiracy (Environment)
3. Watch Earthlings (Ethics)
Congratulations, unless you are a complete idiot you are now a vegan.

Re: Introducing Myself
Hey Red,
If you want to do research I would check out the profiles of the all engineering professors at your school. Then go ahead and directly contact the one whose research you find interesting. Introduce yourself through email, in this day and age it would be the polite way to go about it. Say hi, my name is Red. I find your research interesting and I was wondering if you have room in your group for an undergraduate researcher. Give it a week for a reply. If you get no reply then try again with a different professor. Try to convey who you are and that you are serious about doing research and that you are driven to accomplish things. Doing research as an undergraduate will also make your resume look impressive.
Best Regards,
Your Construct

Hi Jebus,
I am a conspiracy theorist so I believe our political system is nothing more than a facade. I believe the President of the United States is directly controlled by the man who controls the banking system, so it doesn't matter who the President actually is. I do not concern myself with politics.
