My concern with the line about being bullied for not eating meat was not so much about kids worrying about getting teased. Perhaps it should be.

Do you resolve that by having him successfully confront the bullies (as his regular self) at the end of the first book and make them stop bullying him?

I thought there was a good chance. So that solves that issue, since not many kids are going to stop in the middle of the first book given how short it is and the illustrations. Only issue is your non-vegan parents, who I don't think will be that put off if they're interested in an environmental/animal saving book anyway.
