Yeah, I was excited when the parent was out of sight, because the adult deer seem to get spooked so easily. I figured that the young one would be more "open-minded" and curious.

Well, naive and trusting. Babies generally don't know what to be afraid of yet. They take cues from their parents on that one. With a really young deer you can walk right up and touch them if the parents aren't around... but that might not be advisable, because the parents don't tend to go far and when they come back, watch out.

Some people keep them as pets, if the mother has died. But you can't really keep them fenced in practically, since when they grow they can jump really high. They end up wandering off and only coming back to visit now and then, it's not always clear if they survive, since they probably don't really know what to be afraid of.

The wires are for repelling predators. Mainly herons, storks and cats. They will deliver a small electric shock, small enough to scare them off without hurting them.

Not usually, but sometimes they can be if they think you're hurting their babies or threatening them.
They're pretty big animals. Search something like "deer attack".

Never take for granted that something in nature can't kill you, it may be the last thing you do.

Swans too, they can be vicious when protecting their children/nest. most of the time they just try to look scary though.

I paid 20 bucks for a wild hog these red necks caught and while I was on my way to let the hog go back into the state forest, I almost hit a deer!
