It's certainly great for publicity; both for the forum as for getting many people to actually read the letter.
I'm not quite sure yet how you want to present the letter. Do you want to go through it completely—possibly adding some visuals?

Yes (to the visuals). I typically create my videos without too much forethought. I typically create the script in advance, and then work on each segment separately, working off of inspiration.Volenta wrote:It's certainly great for publicity; both for the forum as for getting many people to actually read the letter.

With this letter im imagining perhaps dividing it up in a couple of videos because otherwise it might loose people due to the length.

I was just thinking that yesterday before you replied, that it might be good publicity (and help make sure the letter is seen) to make a video of it.TheVeganAtheist wrote:This letter is looking great. Question to the authors of it, would you consider I make a video of it for my channel?
Sounds good to me.
Since the letter is in three parts, it might work to divide it up that way.TheVeganAtheist wrote:With this letter im imagining perhaps dividing it up in a couple of videos because otherwise it might loose people due to the length.

Re: Open Letter to Matt
It would be great to put in the actual fragments of Matt from the video instead of quoting him using text.
I think the letter is pretty much done now (except for the signature block). Should we open a new topic with the final letter or end this topic with the final letter? I think it's better to make a separate topic for showing and discussing the letter from the writing process.

Although it seems like W. D. Ross is actually borrowing context-dependableness from consequentialism.

Not necessarily it seems (although it's the case with Francione):brimstoneSalad wrote:The deontological view is absolute.

I agree. I was thinking about that (adding the clips of him, instead of reading it).
Perhaps we can open up a new topic with the letter complete and a discussion on what the community wants to see in the videos? Do people want to be involved in the video? What I mean is...
1) members of the forum (authors or not) reading segments of the letter?
2) providing ideas on how the video presentation should be (or do you want me to have full control of that?)
3) Feedback on the project (I can create segments of each video, and provide links to the forum members to give feedback for improvement or revision?

A video would be great, especially on your channel. It would be far more likely to get a response from Matt than just sending it to him.

Re: Open Letter to Matt
I agree on all points.
TVA, I'd be happy to leave it up to you. Too many cooks spoil the tofu, you know.
I think the full letter should be posted as a page, rather than just in the forum.
Here:
http://www.theveganatheist.com/Open_Let ... hunty.html
Then with a link to the forum at the bottom to a thread to discuss the letter.
And a link to your video presentation of it.
We should submit this to bloggers in the Skeptic and Vegan communities. If it has some pretty wide traction, it should get a reply.
Not to appeal to a no-true-Scottsman fallacy (Ross was, after all, literally a true Scottsman).
We could start a thread on that if you want, I'm not sure if it's interesting enough to discuss though.

Yeah, Ross is weird. He was kind of trying to have it both ways. While he claimed to reject consequentialism (I think he more failed to properly understand it), he wasn't really a deontologist either. I don't think he was ever coherent enough with regards to his so called "duties" to make sense of.Volenta wrote:Although it seems like W. D. All great ideas. Who has the final copy that they can provide me? email it to me at [email protected]brimstoneSalad wrote:I agree on all points.

Question: Does anyone on the forum want to read segments of it, or would you rather me read the whole thing? I would prefer if members who were involved with the creation of the letter read segments, as I would like to attribute the work to the forum members (not myself). Also, could someone list for me all the forum members who were involved?

Re: Open Letter to Matt
Sorry if I am forgetting someone but I think Miniboes, Volenta, and Brimstonesalad did all the work. I volunteer for reading if you need help with this.TheVeganAtheist wrote:could someone list for me all the forum members who were involved?
How to become vegan in 4.5 hours:
1.Watch Forks over Knives (Health)
2.Watch Cowspiracy (Environment)
3. Watch Earthlings (Ethics)
Congratulations, unless you are a complete idiot you are now a vegan.

It's in those two posts I made after miniboes, unless anybody has more changes. It should be proof read though.TheVeganAtheist wrote: All great ideas. Who has the final copy that they can provide me? email it to me at [email protected]

Mainly miniboes, volenta, and myself. Others also made a few comments. I'd say don't worry about credit; just mention it was written by the community together, and link to the forum, and people can search for and check the thread if they want to see it being made.
