I actually can't believe I called him Trump. That has to be the worst time to make a Freudian slip.brimstoneSalad wrote:EquALLity wrote:I accidentally called him Trump in the video.
Shit. I could cut that out, but is that misleading? I mean, it was an accident.
Keep it, don't cut it. Make sure you keep everything. Also, back up copies of this stuff. To your computer, and upload copies to a private drop box account.
Then talk to him again, or talk to another one.
Collect more evidence, and next time don't call him Trump.
But keep the one where you did, that might still be OK if he or you mentions his real name (or even if his real name isn't mentioned, it can still help).
I was just thinking about politics, and...
What's even funnier is that I didn't call him Trump in the middle of the conversation, I called him Trump as I was calling him over.
"Trump, can we talk for a sec?" AND HE IMMEDIATELY TURNED AROUND AND RESPONDED TO THAT. LOL
I'm just worried that me accidentally calling him that makes me look like I am a disrupter.
As for the meeting I had today with the woman who runs the clubs and the principal.... It was mixed.
They completely agreed, and it made it very clear that they believed what happened should not have happened, it was disrespectful, and it wouldn't happen again.
However, they wouldn't seem to acknowledge it was discrimination, and they haven't seemed to have actually reprimanded the club or the adviser much from what I know. They told them it was wrong to do what they did, but that seems like it really.
I didn't even need the video, though. According to the principal, who met with the guy I got on vid and they teacher, they didn't deny that they kicked me out. They said they kicked me out because it wasn't a regular meeting, it was a celebration of Trump winning, and they thought I was there to debate them and didn't want that.
But that's NOT what they said at the meeting. They said "registered republicans only", and when I said "You can't kick me out because I don't agree with you", they said they had the right to have a meeting with only republicans (people who agree with them).
I said that they didn't give me that rationale at the meeting, but I wish I focused on it more. It was hard to respond to everything at once because I was processing everything and I didn't expect the meeting to turn out the way it did (I thought they would lie, honestly).
We discussed what happened at the Young Dems today. The adviser, who originally emailed the principal, made a few points.
1) In a perfect world, the club would be shut down and the adviser wouldn't be able to associate with it, but that's not the reality.
2) We don't know what may be going on behind the scenes with the teacher, and on top of that, we don't know who might've been discriminated against by the club before and how this might influence how future instances of discrimination are handled by the club.
She also sent out this email (attachment).
Wait, I just had a revelation!
On the video, I basically got the student to acknowledge they kicked me out because I wasn't republican AND also that they kicked me out because it wasn't a normal meeting. It was both.
"Trump can we talk for a sec?"
"Yes."
"So, this Young Republicans thing... Don't you think it was kind of unfair to kick me out of the meeting because I'm not a republican?"
"No. No. It's not what the meeting was for. It wasn't a regular meeting. Only people who were on the roster and republican cause we were celebrating Trump winning.
"So you think it was even fair for Mr. ____, who is supposed to be an objective teacher-"
"No, but he's in his position at that time, it's not teacher, it's club adviser. And since it's a political club he's allowed to voice his political opinion."
"So you think he can kick me out because I'm not a republican?"
"Yes. He has a right to. Yes."
"Ok." (satisfied I got him to say that)
"Yes."
"It's kinda crazy."
"Well,"- video ends
Where do you guys think I should go from here?
