"Australia is considering tougher laws to stop animal rights activists secretly filming on farms and abattoirs and airing the vision in an effort to protect a multimillion dollar livestock trade, a move rights groups say will hide abuse"

This really only shows how totalitarian and propagandist carnists are, they want to keep the masses from learning the truth about how animals are treated just like the oppressive governments of China and North Korea want to hide their bad human rights records.

Looks like Australia is following in the footsteps of the U.S.

There are already ag-gag bills like this in many states.

I'm not sure what the progress is on constitutional challenges.

What's the track record on Australia's higher courts, and their protection of free speech?
The Ag-gag laws in the U.S. have a good chance of being struck down, but it will take time to do it.

there are two ways of looking at this.
1. this will make it harder/impossible for animal rights organisations, such as peta, to expose animal cruelty.

2. do you think this will stop other animal rights "organisations" such as alf, and independent activists? i think not.

What this will mean is more activists will end up being charged and in jail. Also it will have the result that fewer videos will be made and older footage will be used. The industry will then say that those were old practices that have now been revamped and now do not any relevance.

I do not agree with that kind of decision making. It sounds like to me that they are trying to cover their investments instead of doing what is right by changing how they handle the animals rather than silencing the whistleblowers

doing what is right by changing how they handle the animals rather than silencing the whistleblowers
doing whats right entails ending animal exploitation, not making it more agreeable to people's sensibilities. For the large majority of people on this planet, there is no moral justification to eat animals irrespective of how they are used and killed.
