They are animals, so they are not technically vegan.

There's another thing called bivalvegan, which may include some bivalves.

There's an article here, where one so advocates:
http://sentientist.org/2013/05/20/the-e ... d-mussels/
http://sentientist.org/2013/06/15/oyste ... /#more-143

Some vegans will criticize you for it, some won't. I won't. Probably 90% of the vegans here (being the more rational sort, who are focused on evidence) won't.

Frankly, oysters are slimy and gross, so, I don't want to eat them. Furthermore, I have no real reason to. They're more expensive than vegetable protein, and not terribly useful.

Not much of a reason not to eat them either, though. Since they are sessile, it's hard to argue they have any appreciable sentience, since they probably wouldn't need it.

If you want to eat them, I won't complain, and I won't call you not vegan for it. But, I wouldn't serve them to other vegans :)

Well, there's really not much reason to eat them. So, if it's easy enough to avoid them, I would. (I do!) :)
