Hi to all!

Post by vegaket »

Hi,

I became vegan recently mainly out of curiosity and to be very honest it feels great !

I am eager to learn and share more and more about this subject and especially about the different ways to adjust to the meatless diet.

Also to know from long-term vegans about if it has any negative effects on their health in the long-term. Many say there are problems with B vitamins and some amino acids etc?

Welcome to our forum and congratulations on becoming vegan.

I've been vegan 13 years and have not had any health problems. A whole food plant based diet is far superior than any other diet when it comes to health. There are no amino acid problems. On the contrary, a plant based diet has a better amino acid profile. Just make sure you take a B12 supplement.

Congratulations, unless you are a complete idiot you are now a vegan.

Thanks !

Is there any other way besides a supplement to get the B12 needed?

Yes,

1. Have an injection
2. Eat a ton of B12 fortified foods
3. Eat shit (or eat foods that contain traces of feces)

I think we can agree that supplements is the best way to go.

Supplements are made from bacteria (a process similar to making vinegar), the same place it comes from in nature. Farmed animals eat feces or have bacteria in their stomachs that make B-12. It's just much more pure in a supplement.

Actually, a lot of farmed animals are given supplements today, so by eating dairy or meat you're just getting it second hand.

Most supplements made for people are chewable and have a tasty fruit flavor.

No reason not to take them, they're cheap too.

It's how it's done by most herbivores in nature.
