Hello

Post by dsc20 »

Been vegan for a few months after watching debates and documentaries and thought it would be helpful to join a community.

Also does this forums happen to have a dark mode option, eyes are too accustomed to using night mode everywhere.

Hey dsc20! What prompted you to go vegan? What debates and documentaries have you been watching?
And I don't think we have a dark mode option, sorry. You can try turning down the brightness on your computer if that helps.

Welcome dsc20! Sorry, we don't have a dark theme... that's a good idea though.

It might just be time for us to update our style, this one isn't mobile friendly either. @Red If you feel like browsing for something with a dark theme option and better mobile support, I can install it and change the colors to it.
Not sure how people will be able to select it, though. I looked for an add on to make it easy but didn't see anything.

I searched for a few, but I'm not sure if it's an option. I'll ask the members of the phpBB forum, maybe they'll be able to help us out. What layout does our forum currently use?

I think it's a style based on prosilver. But we'd need one with mobile support and a dark theme that has the same layout. A lot of styles have light and dark versions, so that's just a matter of looking at the styles and choosing one that has a darker version too. No need to ask about that.

Ideally it'd be great if they know of a modification to put a style selector in the top menu by the other buttons (or just a single link to switch to a defined style). If they can tell us where to add what code to do that I could add it in.

A more pressing issue: Autogroup is buggy. It doesn't add members to the group based on post count which increments from approved posts.
E.g. if a user posts and the post needs approval before post count is incremented, autogroup doesn't take into account that new post once it's approved.
If they can recommend a fix for that, that'd be great. Probably a matter of adding a line to trigger autogroup in the post approval stuff, no idea where or what though.

Hey thanks for the responses, was having some posting issues which are resolved now.

What made me consider veganism was a debate between Destiny and VG. Before then I hadn't given it a second thought other than finding it somewhat hypocritical to criticize people in other countries for eating dogs while eating other animals themselves and I briefly considered lowering meat intake due to environmental reasons though that went the way most new years resolutions do. I also watched earthlings before and while it did educate me on the realities of animal AG it hit my stomach more than my heart.
I didn't go vegan right away, instead opting for minimal effort reducetarianism but I did follow a few vegan channels and after seeing some brutal slaughterhouse footage, I finally felt obliged to make the switch.

From my personal experience I'd have to say the biggest obstacle to making the leap were the connotations of the movement and knowing what to eat and do while education, honest discussions, and seeing animal ag footage pushed me over.

As for a dark theme option, I'm currently using dark reader extension for chrome which inverts background colors. I'd love to see a default dark mode since I use firefox as my main browser and inversion also affects banners and some images.

Added a darker theme you can switch to, you can see the style switch option under your username at the top.
Please let me know if that looks OK.

I figured that one out. There was an extension, got it to work. Looks pretty convenient. Check out the new style if you can. Does it work well on mobile?

This is still an outstanding issue though:

I really like it, and it also looks pretty good on mobile. We can't see the logo anymore, but I don't think that's a problem, it wouldn't go with the background anyway.
