Stray cat and 3 kittens in my garage

Post by thebestofenergy »

A stray cat that always hang around my neighborhood chose my garage to give birth to 3 kittens. They've just been staying there, and the cat mom seems to like me.
I'm not really sure what to do.
I could try to put pictures around and try to give them away, but there's no guarantee that the new owners will spray them, and they'll be fed a 100% carnivorous diet for sure. Also, everybody around my area seems to already have cats and dogs when my neighbor and I asked if someone wanted them, so these new cats they'd adopt probably wouldn't take the place of bred cats, and instead just add on top as extras.
I could, instead, spray them myself, and leave them our vegan leftovers outside with some nutritional yeast (cats love nutritional yeast) on top to make it appealing. This would also attract other nearby stray cats to eat more vegan food. And it would cost me very little to feed them leftovers with a bit of yeast.
I live in the hills and nature, so they'll eventually kill some birds, rodents and insects, however, that could also be true if they're adopted by another family that has a garden.
I think that maybe the second option, where I'll spray them and feed them some vegan food myself, will result in the lesser evil (less overall animals' deaths/suffering throughout their lives).

What do you think?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Do you have any TNR groups in your area? Just call them up, they'll take care of the cat and her kittens.

I don't know your background but I wouldn't perform any surgery without the proper equipment.

If the kittens were born recently they can be put up for adoption. The mom cat will worry for a little while, but she'll eventually forget she even had kittens.

Now if you're concerned about the adopted kittens being fed meat, I can understand that concern, and I'm not sure what the answer for that is. If you're planning on adopting them, then that's a different story. Either way, you should still get them spayed/neutered. The best diet to give cats is a combination of vegan cat food and Freegan meat.

Yes, what I meant is that I'd make sure to get them sprayed (by a vet).

Yeah, having them sprayed was never up for debate.
Also, I'm not sure where I'd find freegan meat nearby. I could ask a butcher in the near city if he could set aside what he'd throw out, and when I seldomly pass from there, I could get it. Not sure.

Just go the dumpsters nearby if you can. Do you live in an Urban part of Italy?

Nope, I live in a village. Dumpsters here have only garbage in them really, and their lid is closed anyway. They're not open ones.
So, it's not easy to find freegan meat where I live unfortunately.
