I think there is a much shorter explanation here: "When you see a piece of cheese, you see nothing. When I see a piece of cheese, I see a mother who has her children taken away and who cries until she loses her voice. And, even if you yourself do not believe that, I hope you can now understand why we vegans flip out.".

Although, you have to admit, it is questionable if cows really grieve their children. Sure, the scientific consensus is that cows (just like all mammals except naked mole rats) feel physical pain, but there does not seem to be a scientific consensus they can feel emotional pain.
