So, what do you think is the best response to that argument? It goes something like this: The biggest cause of antibiotic resistance is not antibiotics given to other living beings, but trace amounts of antibiotics in food. There are regulations preventing trace amounts of antibiotics from appearing in animal products, but there are no enforced regulations preventing that from happening in plant-based food. Because the use of antibiotics in plants is not regulated, it is probably done very irresponsibly and is therefore probably the biggest cause of antibiotic resistance in humans.
