Since ethical egoism is so bad, and Penn seems generally smart, and that Ayn Rand's Objectivism isn't a dogma for him leads me to believe that he probably isn't an ethical egoist.

I think he was saying that the personality worship of Rand wasn't something he believes in.

He may have taken the egoism to heart. It's not entirely clear.

Although he likes to talk about practicing personal altruism (in a humanistic and speciesistic way), it's not clear if he also only considers those views of his 'aesthetic'.

Hm. I'll ask him in a tweet if he considers himself an 'ethical egoist'.
